Jubilee High Tea & Flea Market -

If you haven’t yet been to Brixton, make sure you do. This vibrant area with its diverse community has street markets that date back to the 1880s, was home to England’s first pupose built department store and one of the first streets to have electric lighting, hence the name, Electric Avenue.

It also has it’s own currency, the Brixton Pound (although you don’t need it to shop) which encourages money to stay in the community.

This Saturday’s market will be filled with second hand goods at bargain prices, and the Tea Market will be selling baked buns, breads and cakes. There are also food stalls selling a wide range of foods from around the world and cheap clothing and jewellery.

There are also many bars and pubs to relax in, you could start at the top of Coldharbour Lane in the Prince of Wales Pub which has outside seating and then walk down the road to the atmospheric Dogstar to try their bar menu or to club into the early hours of the morning. This also has an outside area and is free to get in before 10pm, the music on Saturdays is Hip Hop, Indie and Rock.

Brixton is only 10 minutes from Victoria, Southbound on the Victoria Line.
